CATSFC-libretro-vita 1.1.0 (A port of SNES9X 1.43 for Vita) released

Developer skogaby just updated his Snes9x port, CATSFC-libretro-vita to 1.1.0. This version is based on SNES9x 1.43 (opposed to SNES9xVita being based on 1.52). CATSFC-libretro-vita has better speed (full speed on a lot of games) but gives less accurate emulation compared to SNES9xVita. With the version 1.1.0, it now has the multiple display/controller options and modern GUI of SNES9XVita.

Developer skogaby ported both SNES9x 1.43 and 1.52 to Vita, one being CATSFC-libretro-vita and the other being SNES9xVita. Even though SNES9xVita gives better emulation, unfortunately it doesn’t reach full speed on Vita without frame-skipping in most scenarios. That is especially true if you are using Unity 1.05 which doesn’t have the 444 mhz CPU support. SNES9xVita has a great GUI, savestate support, configurable screen size and more options which CATSFC-libretro-vita lacked before this release. Due to the high demand of community who wants to enjoy CATSFC-libretro-vita with the great GUI of SNES9xVita, skogaby updated CATSFC-libretro-vita, making both of his SNES9x ports have the configurable options and the modern GUI.
If you are using Unity 1.06 which needs 3.30-3.51 firmwares i would advise to use SNES9xVita for better emulation accuracy. If you are using Unity 1.05 like me, as you are stuck to 333 mhz CPU, it would be wiser to use CATSFC-libretro-vita for better speed.
I want to thank skogaby for porting both SNES9x 1.43 and 1.52 to Vita and leaving the choice to the end user.

gui4Rejuvenate (a simple GUI for Rejuvenate) is released

Developer “sega dude” released a GUI for Rejuvenate. It is a simple to use GUI which lists the homebrews in your Rejuvenate directory and lets you run them with a single click. You can also choose the PSM Dev or PSM Unity modes.
gui4Rejuvenate
Installing gui4Rejuvenate is easy. Just drag the .exe to your Rejuvenate directory, choose the mode you want (PSM Dev or PSM Unity) and you are good to go.
Even though Rejuvenate is easy to run with just dropping the .elf/.velf to a batch file, a GUI is still good. As of now, gui4Rejuvenate is my preferred method to run vita homebrews. Instead of looking for the homebrew I want in the directory, gui4Rejuvenate lists them for me and I click away.
Thanks to developer “sega dude” for this nice GUI, hope to see more in the future.

3DS: SmashBrosHax was just released – Launch Homebrew via Super Smash Bros.!

Nintendo 3DS scene developer Yellows8 has just released yet another userland exploit for the Nintendo 3DS & New3DS.
This time it is done via the Super Smash Bros. game (or demo version) for the Nintendo 3DS.
smash-bros-wii-u-release-date
Yellows8 has successfully exploited the Super Smash Bros. game & its free demo version on the Nintendo 3DS.
Keep in mind that the demo version can only be started a limited amount of times, and you might be required to redownloaded it after all your starts have been used up. Ultimately, you’ll probably need the full game for the exploit.
The exploit lies in the local wireless function of the game, the one that allows you to play Smash in local multiplayer matches on your 3DS. This means that if your Nintendo 3DS is searching for local multiplayer games, you are able to exploit a vulnerability in the Smash Bros. game, which in the end will enable you to launch Homebrews on your device.
3DS HBL
Keep in mind that this exploit is not as easy to use as the previous exploits. This exploit requires you to do a bit more than just copying a savedata file or changing your Wifi DNS server.

You have to broadcast the local Wifi signal yourself, preferable always on the very same channel & with the same MAC address, for your Nintendo 3DS to be able to find it.
Supported application builds:
demo: USA+EUR supported and tested. There’s no difference between the regular demo and the “Special Demo” with this hax. This was the only version of Smash-3ds supported by this hax initially, until after the USA version of the game was released.
v1.0.0. USA: supported+tested. “gameother”: supported+tested.
v1.0.2. USA: supported, not tested.
v1.0.4. USA: supported+tested. “gameother”: supported, not tested.
v1.0.5. USA: “supported”. The target heap address for overwriting the target object varies, hence this hax doesn’t actually work right with this version. This version is not fully supported due to this.
v1.1.0. USA: supported+tested. “gameother”: supported+tested.
Last version tested with this vuln was v1.1.0, vuln still isn’t fixed with that version.
EUR and JPN full-game .code binaries addresses-wise are basically the same, for v1.0.4 at least. Hence, the filenames for these two regions include “gameother”.
Since this exploit is not that easy to use for technologically illiterate people, I am not going to write out fully detailed instructions how to use it, until an easier method, one suitable for technologically illiterate people, is available.
Yellows8 already explained the current method on his Github anyways.

VitaDefiler for Android Released

Vita dev frangarcj released Rejuvenate-0.3.3 Android. This means you are no longer restricted to be connected to a Windows PC via USB or wireless for your Vita homebrew need. You can have your favourite Rejuvenate homebrews wherever you go with the help of your Android phone/tablet.
About two weeks ago, we told you about a possible upcoming release ofVitaDefiler for Android. Thanks to frangarcj, it is now a reality. This means so much for the scene as it gives back Vita the portability it needs. Even thoughRejuvenate is one of the best things that happened to Vita, necessity to be connected to a Windows PC (via USB or wireless) really limits the portability. This is where Rejuvenate-0.3.3 Android comes into play. With it, you can connect both your Vita and your android phone/tablet to an existing wi-fi spot and shoot your Rejuvenate homebrew. If there is no wi-fi around, don’t worry, you can just create a hotspot on your android phone/tablet and have your vita connected to that hotspot and voila, you are ready to rock.
Thanks to frangarcj and other devs helping him for giving Rejuvenate the portability it needs.

mGBA (GameBoy Advance emulator for PS Vita) alpha 4 released

Endrift recently released a new version of his Gameboy advance emulator on the PS Vita, mGBA.
mGBA is different from other emulators such as gpsp, as it was made specifically as a native PS Vita emulator (while GPSP was designed for the PSP). It’s running through the rejuvenate platform and you can run it if you have a PS Vita on firmware 3.51 or lower (see our rejuvenate page for details on how to run homebrews on your PS Vita).
This new alpha includes hundreds of changes since the last Alpha that was released 15 days ago (keeping in mind that many of these changes are not specific to the PS Vita. mGBA now exists for the Wii and 3DS as well.

Emulator on PS4: Gameboy emulator running on the PS4, source code released

After a stream of releases, developer CTurt just announced he ported Cinoop, his very own gameboy emulator, to the PS4.
Not so long ago, CTurt announced he had gained code execution on the PS4. He then released a simple pong game for the PS4, and also announced he was working on a homebrew loader. With a gameboy emulator released just a few days after these statements, he’s making progress fast, it seems.
CTurt had initially announced he would reverse engineer the graphics library on the PS4 in order to run his homebrew loader. It seems he has taken a shortcut as this is running through a HTML canvas. In other words, the PS4 does the processing job, and the rendering goes through webkit, which means the graphics lib was not used. Impressive nonetheless.

Just like for the Pong game, CTurt is controlling the homebrew through a Nintendo DS, as hackers do not have access to the Dulashock controllers through the hack yet.
Before you all get super excited, keep in mind that this is running through theWebkit exploit on PS4 firmware 1.76. Are you on firmware 1.76 or below? Yeah, I didn’t think so. This is some exciting news, but nothing that directly benefits the end user at this point, or that leads us to some full PS4 Jailbreak. It’s still awesome to see some progress.
